Preferred Transportation Services delivers chilled and frozen freight across Oahu in refrigerated box trucks that hold set points from ambient down to -10°F. That covers chilled food at 41°F or below and frozen goods at 0°F or below. We serve restaurants, grocers, food distributors and medical suppliers from our Honolulu yard.
| Freight | Typical target | Where the number comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Chilled food: produce, dairy, meat, seafood, prepared food | 41°F (5°C) or below | FDA Food Code cold-holding limit for time/temperature control for safety (TCS) food |
| Frozen food and ice cream | 0°F (-18°C) or below | FDA freezer guidance |
| Refrigerated medical supplies | The range on the product label, such as 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C) | CDC range for refrigerated vaccine storage |

Your set point is the one that counts. Under the FDA's sanitary transportation rule, the shipper gives the carrier the operating temperature in writing, including any pre-cooling, and we set the reefer unit to match.

Our refrigerated box trucks are part of a fleet that also runs dry box trucks, flatbeds and 40 to 45 ft trailers, and our box trucks range from 14 to 26 ft. Reefer units hold from ambient down to -10°F, so the same fleet covers chilled and frozen loads. Ask for a lift gate when the receiver has no dock.
Produce, dairy, meat, seafood, beverages and prepared food held at your set point, 41°F or below for TCS food.
Frozen food, ice cream and frozen inputs held at 0°F or below, with reefer units rated down to -10°F.
Standing store, kitchen and hotel deliveries on a fixed schedule, plus same-day and rush loads when a receiver runs short.
More than 80 percent of the goods consumed in Hawaii are imported, and about 99 percent of imports arrive through the state's commercial harbors. Chilled and frozen food comes in refrigerated containers; Matson, for example, ships 40 ft high-cube reefers to Hawaii. We pick up the container with container drayage and deliver it to your cold room, or unload it and run the freight to your stores in reefer box trucks. Plan around the vessel arrival, your warehouse space and your receivers' windows so the load never waits on a hot dock.
Cold-chain problems usually happen at handoffs: a pallet left on a dock, a door open too long, a receiver who is not ready. Three steps keep the temperature on record:
We schedule each stop to the receiver's window. Restaurants, grocers and hospitals often take deliveries only at set times, so tell us the window, the receiving contact, dock or curb access and any building rules when you book. We run scheduled, recurring, same-day and rush deliveries. Our office takes bookings Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

The FDA Food Code sets 41°F (5°C) or below for cold holding of TCS food, and the FDA advises keeping frozen food at 0°F (-18°C) or below. Your product specifications may call for tighter limits.
